Every so often on a random Saturday night I will ask my husband if he wants to get massages. The answer is usually ‘yes’ but the struggle is finding a place where we can get a last minute massage.
If you know me, you know I live for convenience.
I Immediately begin my quest for a location that can take a couple peeps ready for some relaxation. It’s hard to find last minute!! But luckily I ventured upon Green Bamboo Massage and Foot Spa in San Diego.
- It’s close to home (hello convenience) ✔️
- Had appointment availability same day ✔️
- Affordable ✔️
- Clean ✔️
- Bonus: Couples appointment (we sat right next to each other) ✔️
This is exactly the type of place that caters to a last minute I need a massage now type of crowd. AKA me. I might be a tad impatient. A tad..
Less than an hour after we called, we walked in the door for our reflexology foot massage (head, neck, shoulders included). We were escorted through a curtain to a communal reflexology area. They had us lay on a bed of sorts next to each other, place our feet in our respective buckets of water foot baths while the reflexologists (title?) started first on our scalps with a massage.
After a full head, neck, and arm massage was complete, they moved on to the lower legs and feet for the reflexology portion. Now that my body was already well relaxed, this was just icing on the cake.
Think of having a pedicure massage on steroids.
Someone who really knows what they’re doing, ya know? The type of pedicurist that nails the massage so well, you find out their name just so you can ask for them next time. But better than that…
After the reflexology leg and foot massage, the generous reflexologist wrapped up the session with a hot towel over my legs and feet.
Ahhh, sweet R’n’R
What it’s good for:
- Relaxation
- Rest
- Muscle tension in the neck, shoulders, and extremities
- Decompression
- Stress relief
- General well-being
- Self-care
- Improved circulation
- Clarity of mind
- Pure enjoyment
- Last minute booking
What it’s not good for:
- Targeted muscle tension release
- Sports related injuries
- Deep tissue muscle relief
- Custom massage
- Private room (this is a community style)
- Full body massage
- Luxurious experience
A couple things to note.
This is in a semi-private setting where there are other people in the room. If that freaks you out, this probably isn’t for you.
Communal comes with convenience. For me, the convenience of almost being able to walk in at the drop of a hat was stellar so it didn’t bother me one bit. Just like my acupuncturist spot, communal is OK in my book.
What you wear will make or break this appointment. Ladies – wear loose pants you can pull up or roll up for access up to the knee. Again, think pedicure.
For your top, I’ve made the mistake of wearing a traditional racerback sports bra in the past, but this was a problem for the therapist accessing my traps and upper shoulders. A traditional over the shoulder or non-racerback bra works better in this setting as they have full access to your trapezius and neck muscles (between the top of the shoulder and neck).
For a shirt, I like to wear a comfy long sleeve because then I stay warmer throughout the process. If I wore a tank top it might get a little chilly after a while as you are just laying there… But then again, I get cold easily.
