CLEAN EATING CHALLENGE
Take the guessing out of what to eat for weight loss without being hungry! Start the clean eating challenge today!
I often hear women tell me they have a hard time drinking water every day. They may not prefer the taste and choose other beverages, don’t have easy access to filtered water, or just don’t think about it. In this post I’ll teach out how to drink more water in unbelievably easy ways.
When we don’t drink enough water it affects every process in our body. You might notice your skin feeling more dry, you might think you are hungry (when you are actually thirsty), or you could even become light headed or sick. Staying hydrated is SUPER important.
If you have a fat loss goal – water is even more important. You can end up overeating when in reality your body just needed some water instead of food!
Luckily for all of us, we do get some water in the foods we eat, so a portion of your hydration is taken care of there. But still, it’s not enough. The average person needs 8 cups or 64 oz of water a day to properly function. But that’s a minimum.
So after coming to the realization that people aren’t drinking enough water, I thought about why that might be and why I drink so much.
The answer? Accessibility and convenience..
When something is easier for us we tend to do that thing… path of least resistance kind of stuff.
So why not make drinking water more accessible to you!
But first things first. You may not like the taste of water or you may avoid the tap due to the flavor. Solution? Get a filter and tank system. I have this one and couldn’t live without it. Also, be careful about just ordering any old filter on Amazon, go to pur.com and click on their Amazon link to get the correct one. There are a lot of scammers out there with these things.
Once you have your water filter system, you are setting yourself up for success. The following are things I personally do myself and recommend to anyone that tells me they don’t drink enough water. While they may seem over-simplified, sometimes the most simple things in life make the biggest impact in the long run.
Here we go…
4 tips to staying hydrated throughout the day
How to drink more water hack #1 – Get a straw
Getting a straw makes drinking water easier. Yep! Why? Not having a straw is a productivity killer. Because, if you’re like me, you might be working throughout the day at your desk. If you have to tilt your head back every damn time you need to take a sip, you lose your place on the page. Then, you have to go find where you were reading or where you were typing all over again. It is really annoying actually, so when you get a straw you can continue working as you’re sipping. Productivity problem solved.
I really notice a big difference with this one. What seems like a really small thing actually increases the amount of water I drink throughout the day substantially. I literally just sit there and stare at my screen while I drink water and I never lose my place on the page. It’s the best multi-tasker.
Here are some “green” straws that won’t kill the environment while getting you the convenience you need.
How to drink more water hack #2 – Get a favorite water bottle for home
Do you have a favorite coffee mug? Yea, most of us do. And don’t you love drinking coffee out of THAT particular cup? Well like the favorite coffee mug you also need to have a favorite water cup/bottle/tumbler. I personally love some of the ones at Starbucks. I don’t really drink Starbucks coffee so whenever I get a gift card I always go and buy one of their tumblers or their coffee thermoses. They really stand the test of time.
I mean that matte black one is so chic. Who wouldn’t feel like a badass drinking out of that?
Here are a few others that aren’t Starbucks I like…
Civago Tumbler Stainless Coffee Insulated
How to drink more water hack #3 – Get a water bottle to take with you on the go
I take my Nalgene bottle everywhere I go. It’s been referred to as my right arm. I love the Nalgene just because it’s easy to loop around a backpack, perfect for hikes when I don’t have my camelbak. It stores a ton of water so it’s great for traveling long distances. It has the convenience of having the screwtop, being lightweight, as well as being able to fit some ice. I could go on and on.
I’ve even dressed up my water bottle with stickers from some of my travels. Almost like little travel trophies from all my adventures. It’s a fun reminder of those great moments. At this point if I lost my Nalgene, I would be very, very sad.
How to drink more water hack #4 – If you don’t like the taste, try infused water recipes
Some people need FLAVOR in their lives. If this is you, try mixing it up with some great infused water recipes!
I love to get a big pitcher, fill it up with filtered water, add some fresh mint, make sure to smash that mint around a little bit so you express the aroma, add some fruit like lemon, strawberries or oranges. Voila. At home spa water.
Here are some other great recipes to try.
Conclusion
You see, just making it easy to consume water will create a dramatic effect on how much water you actually drink each day. Now that you’ve learned how to drink more water, in super simple ways, it’s time to take action. Pick out your favorite water bottle (with a straw) and get to sippin.
